About Us

Modista Events and Design was launched by 2004 by Carmel Paulemon. Named for her experience in the bridal fashion industry (modista translating to dressmaker), the firm serves individuals in the tri-state area, offering individuals wedding and event planning services, as well as custom designed special occasion garments and alterations.

A native of Stamford, CT, Carmel Paulemon has worked in the wedding industry for over 20 years in both the retail and manufacturing sectors. Beginning her career as a bridal consultant, Carmel has worked in some of the most exclusive salons in the country. Among them, Yumi Katsura in New York, Anne Barge in Atlanta, and Janet Brown Egan in Connecticut.  On the manufacturing end, Carmel has been privileged to have worked as a patternmaker in the design rooms of notable couture designers including, Richard Glasgow, Erisa Yuki, and Lazaro.

Carmel is a graduate of New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology and The American College for the Applied Arts.
